What is Jesus Burgers?

As one of the ministries of Mission Isla Vista, Jesus Burgers is a movement in cities and college campuses across America, originating in 2001 at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB).

Since 2001, over a hundred thousand burgers (and counting) have been given away, thousands of lives have been changed, and God continues to reach college students through a simple hamburger.

Adjacent to the University of Santa Barbara (UCSB), Isla Vista consists of roughly 20,000 people in one square mile and is a college town that consistently ranks in the top party schools of America.

Every Friday night, during the UCSB school year, about 200 hamburgers are served from the Jesus Burgers home. The home is located in Isla Vista on one of the most famous party streets, Del Playa. After persevering through opposition in the early years of Jesus Burgers, the Jesus Burgers house (established in 2002) is now known throughout the city of Isla Vista as a place of love, peace, and of course Jesus!

People often ask, "Why do you give burgers away for free?" The answer to this question is always simple and easy,  "... because Jesus loves you." The heart of Jesus Burgers is God’s heart of generosity and unconditional love. Demonstrating this love takes countless forms. It may look like walking people home who have had too much to drink, allowing someone to use our bathroom, giving them a cup of water, listening and praying for them, etc. God's love is real and Jesus Burgers is a demonstration of that.
